All juniors should report to the high school in Mutual tomorrow by 7:50 a.m. to take the ACT. Do NOT go to the career tech.

JH and HS students will be boarding their normal route buses after the pep assembly Thursday afternoon and will not be returning to Mutual to the high school. Students should take all items they need for the weekend with them to the parade. They may retrieve it from the bus they ride to Sharon after the pep assembly and board their route bus at the pep rally. Any athletes needing transportation to the high school for practice after school should ride Alan's bus back to the high school for practice.

2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar Recommendations Due October 30 Presidential Scholar pic The Oklahoma State Department of Education is soliciting recommendations of our State's top scholars for the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholars Program recognition award. We ask that educators submit information for an outstanding SENIOR student graduating between January and June 2021 who you believe will represent the State of Oklahoma well if selected as a U.S. Presidential Scholar. Scholars will be selected based on outstanding leadership in the areas of academic achievement, community involvement, and positive character. As you form your recommendation, consider what makes the student stand out as having exemplary scholarship. Has the student overcome special challenges or hurdles while still achieving high academic success? Has the student engaged in consistent service learning that has impacted the school and community? Does the student exhibit innate leadership qualities that build relationships and empower others. We invite you to tell their story. Be their champion for this honor of excellence. The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program (USPSP) was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students. Recommend an Oklahoma Senior using the link below. United States Senate Youth Program The 59th Annual United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP), established in 1962 by U.S. Senate Resolution, awards two student leaders from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity a week in Washington experiencing their national government in action. Delegates hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense and directors of federal agencies, as well as participate in a meeting with a Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Each delegate is awarded a $10,000 College Scholarship for undergraduate studies. USSYP is limited to junior and seniors who are currently serving in any one of the following student government offices: a. student body president, vice-president, secretary, or treasurer b. class president, vice-president, secretary, or treasurer c. student council representative d. national honor society officer e. student representative elected or appointed to a district, regional, or state level civic or educational organization The USSYP Washington Week will be held online the week of March 14, 2021. The exact timeframe of the program is to be decided. Two students from each state will be selected to attend the online program and each will receive a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship. Students may qualify to apply through leadership positions they currently hold per the USSYP official criteria for the current 2020-2021 academic year. If students are unable to hold leadership positions this year due to the pandemic, they can submit the position they held during the 2019-2020 academic year. All student leadership qualifying positions are subject to the judgement of the state selection administrator and will be verified and confirmed. Access the USSYP Brochure here. Oklahoma applications can be accessed here and are due by 5:00 p.m. on November 20, 2020. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Finalists will be notified by December 31, 2020. Finalists will be required to attend a virtual interview the week of January 11-15, 2021. On the basis of the personal interview, essays, letter of recommendation, and application, judges will select two student delegates to represent Oklahoma and a first and second alternate. I called to check on tomorrow’s game and Beaver doesn’t even have us on their schedule. I confirmed this date with their previous coach last fall. No elementary or JH game will be played at Beaver tomorrow. We will try and find someone to play another day. I apologize for any confusion.
