High school students will be separated into groups of approximately 15 students each, and the groups will go through a rotation of the following workshops:
1. Clinical Skills Lab ā Perform clinical skills assessments including reflexes, use of a glucometer and peak flow readings. Students will also use lab data to assess disease states
2. Compounding Lab ā Prepare pharmaceutical dosage forms including lip balm and hand sanitizer gel
3. Dispensing Lab ā Fill a prescription and counsel over the medication, participate in a āpillā counting race
4. Sterile Products Lab ā Prepare a product to be administered intravenously in a sterile, clean-room environment
5. Pharmacy Problem-Solving Workshop ā Participate in an āescape roomā or ācrime scene investigationā style challenge where students will play the role of the clinical pharmacist to solve a patient case and help save the day!
New this year, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Dr. Les Ramos, will be offering an optional parent meeting to provide information and answer questions. There will be a $25 non-refundable registration fee to help cover the costs associated with the program. There is a 75-student limit and it is first-come, first-served, so please encourage students to register ASAP!
