Why is graduation day too late for high school seniors to worry about financial aid for college? And what do I need to prepare for applications ahead of time?
This month on Creating Impact Through Giving, Jessica Schwager, director of scholarships at OCCF, tells us about the tips and tricks behind a successful scholarship application. You'll also learn about a great scholarship opportunity for students in foster care, and hear the impactful story of one of our past recipients, Savien Johnson.
VIDEO: Inspiring the Next Generation
Savien Johnson took advantage of an OCCF scholarship specifically designed for his own unique circumstance ā transitioning out of the foster care system in Oklahoma.
OCCF TIP: Connect With Your School's Staff & Faculty!
With classrooms going virtual, it is more important than ever to stay connected in these last couple of months. No matter if your students have already been admitted to their dream school or are still weighing their options - we strongly suggest that they reach out to their potential future campus staff and keep all parties informed of any changes in their circumstances.

The American Legion is reaching out to inform you about the amazing opportunity that is Oklahoma American Legion Boys State.
We humbly ask for your help in the process of recruiting and enrolling the best and brightest High School Junior AND Senior men in your community to be 20/21 Oklahoma American Legion Boys State delegates! The year 2020 created many challenges, to include necessitating the cancellation of the 2020 Boys State session. As a result of that, for the first time ever, Oklahoma Boys State will be open to both Juniors AND Seniors in 2021, essentially merging the 20 and 21 sessions, thus this year will be Boys State 20/21.
Many schools have a rich history of working with their local American Legion Post to recruit young men to attend Oklahoma Boys State. If you do not have a local Post or your local Post that cannot visit because of current COVID-19 precautions, we would like to ensure you have the necessary information to provide to your students. Our website (www.okboysstate.com) is chock-full of information about the program and is the avenue to enrollment. For those that would like a little more personal interaction we have a recruiting team that will: come to your school, answer your phone calls, have virtual meetings with yourself or your students, whatever is necessary to make Oklahoma Boys State available to any deserving young man that would like to attend.
I would like to make myself available to you, your students, or their parents, for any questions anyone may have about the program. I would like to ask for your help with getting the information to your student body. Adding Oklahoma Boys State to their high school resume could be the single difference between themselves and other qualified applicants regarding college admittance or scholarship applications. Quite simply if you have someone that wants to attend, I can make it happen. My Contact Information is as follows:

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or opportunities that you may have. If you would schedule time for someone from our staff to visit your campus, or time to have a virtual meeting with possible applicants, we will make ourselves available. Oklahoma Boys State has made a difference in the lives of so many young men in our state. Our Chief of Staff, Matthew Fleharty, Graduated from The Air Force Academy, is a Major in The Air Force, and currently attends Harvard University. He says that without OKBS the life he is living would not be possible.
Thank you for your time and attention. I have included some information below that I could drone on about for the next 1,000 ā 3,000 words but I am sure none of us have time for that. Let me help you, help your students by introducing them to Oklahoma Boys State, āThe week that shapes a lifetime.ā
