Sophomore scholarship opportunity! Each year the Kiwanis Club of Woodward presents one Sophomore from Woodward County with the local Walter Hurst Sophomore of the Year Award. The local winner’s application is then submitted to the Kiwanis Division 16 office and judged against other local winners in the Division. The Division winner reaches the Texas-Oklahoma District level and is honored with a $600 scholarship. Over the years, they have had several local winners achieve the District level honor, including Khloe Clemence, our 2024 SOTY, and Cheyenne Semmel, our 2023 SOTY. As an extra incentive, our local Kiwanis Club awards the local winner with a $250.00 scholarship which is presented upon graduation from high school. Please encourage your outstanding sophomore to apply for the SOTY award. Email Mrs. Hopper at thopper@smps.k12.ok.us for an application. In addition to listing their achievements and expressing themselves in writing, attention to the details of the instructions in filling out the application is a key factor and reviewed closely by the local club.
